Turning To Outsourcing Electronic Human Resource Services
NST Appointments: HR News, Wednesday, October 30, 2002
Although electronic human resource (e-HR) management has been identified as a catalyst towards achieving business strategies, there is little interest among local companies to adopt it.
According to CnetG Asia, a HR outsourcing company, this is due to local companies viewing HR as a cost centre. On top of that, the implementation and maintenance costs of e-HR systems has also been a deterring factor, the company says.
A solution to this would be to outsource the e-HR services, which according to its head of strategies and operations Raj Kumar is becoming an increasingly common practice to address the pressure of the HR function to manage people and technology resources, enhance services, and manage costs more effectively.
"As HR is playing a more strategic and consultative role in business, HR professionals need to move away from focusing on operational and transactional activities to strategic issues. By outsourcing non-core activities, they can play a more strategic role," he says.
Raj Kumar says by outsourcing e-HR, companies can have access to experts' knowledge and services that may be too costly for them to provide such services themselves.
Another plus point for outsourcing e-HR which local companies should consider is the reduction in operating costs and huge investments and risks involved in purchasing information and communications (ICT) software.
"There is a huge investment involved in setting up and maintaining e-HR systems. Outsourcing reduces the need for such large capital expenditure, in addition to providing a means for accessing and maintaining the latest technology," Raj Kumar says CnetG provides outsourcing solutions for payroll processing, recruitment, project staffing and e-HR. The company leverages on ICT to provide e-HR solutions.
